How to have a sustainable career working in the education system

And what to do if you are thinking about career change.

The education system is not designed to look after you, and it's not an accident.

Don't mistake me. I'm not saying the education system is some evil empire full of storm troopers out to get you.   But it is a system that simply is not designed to look after the people who work within it. That's just not the point of it.   There are people within the system making moves in that direction (thank goodness), but it’s a massive task to shift the many forces of such a complex structure that are working against that aim. In the meantime, you need to survive the education system.

This presentation is NOT for you if...

You want to skip the reasons people are struggling to survive (the result being massive workforce shortages as teachers leave in droves) and go straight to ‘let’s all thrive’. Sure. Of course. I’m all for teacher wellbeing. I literally have a whole podcast about it. But I know for so many teachers right now, that’s a bridge too far when they’re feeling completely let down, run down and burnt out by the system.  So, this presentation is about the first step from that place, which is surviving.

This presentation IS for you, if...

You love teaching (or you used to). But now you're wondering how you'll survive another year and whether staying in the job is the right decision or if it's time to move on. Before you make that decision, please watch this presentation. There are some things I want you to know, that I think could really help you have a different experience of working in the education system this year (and beyond!)
