The truth is, the cure for teacher burnout isn't self-care...

It’s systemic and cultural change, real workload reduction, and deep, abiding community care.

But sadly, that isn't the world we currently live in.

I believe it's possible for us to create that world. But in order for any of us to be involved in create and receiving the benefits of those changes, we need to survive and function this term, this week, today.

The key to that is building resilience and cultivating wellbeing through self-advocacy, self-compassion and transformational self-care (not the instagrammable kind!)

But how do we even start?

Introducing The Resilient Teacher Group Coaching Program

Starts 22nd July 2023

The Resilient Teacher Group Coaching Program is a 5 month cohort of like-minded teachers working towards similar goals of supporting their health, wellbeing and resilience as teachers.

The program is facilitated by Ellen Ronalds Keene, Teacher Wellbeing & Career Coach, Founder of Self-Care for Teachers and Host of the Teacher Wellbeing Podcast.

Calls are held fortnightly on Saturday mornings beginning with 22nd July 2023 at 9am QLD time. We meet on Zoom, so you can join from anywhere in Australia.

"Thank you so much, Ellen, for your gentle and compassionate approach. You have been a place of grounding over the past month as I grapple with the obstacles I am facing in my teaching vocation. I am so grateful that I am not alone in this time of change and in my quest to empower myself and reinvigorate my resilience." ~ Leah, Teacher.

Join the group coaching program for:

  • Gentle accountability and support

  • A cohort of like-minded peers

  • Increased self-awareness and self-compassion

  • A bespoke plan to build your wellbeing

It's time to treat yourself like a person first and a teacher second!

Imagine what the world would be like if…

  • You didn’t feel exhausted, depleted and resentful all the time

  • Your healthy habits, self-care practices and wellbeing rituals were a regular and established part of your weekly schedule

  • You didn’t feel guilty for making decisions or taking actions to nurture and nourish yourself

  • You found joy and accomplishment in your teaching again because you had the energy and enthusiasm at home and at work

  • You had strong boundaries with yourself and others that allowed you to truly treat yourself like a person first and a teacher second

  • You felt confident in your ability to follow through and stick to health and wellbeing goals you set for yourself, not just in the holidays but throughout the term

  • You felt supported to unlearn and overcome the habits and beliefs that were keeping you depleted, like wearing busy as a badge of honour, people-pleasing, martyrdom and waiting for the education system/your Principal to change before you allow yourself to look after your own needs

  • You had a mentor and coach who truly gets it and is 100% there to support your wellbeing and resilience as a person, with no hidden agenda about meeting workplace deadlines or ticking school improvement survey boxes

  • You had a group of like-minded peers who truly understood what you were going through and the changes you were trying to make, who were there to support and encourage you along the way

That’s what we aim to achieve with The Resilient Teacher Program.

Here's what Wendy, a previous participant had to say...

"I think for me the best thing about The Resilient Teacher Group Program has been that it has really kept that awareness of self-care and wellbeing at the forefront of my mind on a daily basis. In previous years that definitely hadn't been the case. I would get carried away in the holidays and think, 'I will have these great habits, eat right and exercise all the time.' And then that's all unrealistic and falls in a hole!

Whereas I've found being part of the Resilient Teacher program has meant that it's become a daily awareness. It's not that I'm thinking about it all the time, but it's just there as a reminder to me that that's enough work now and what am I doing for myself as a person rather than just thinking about work all the time during the term.

I've developed a habit of mind over the 6 months of the program. Out of everything, that's been immensely valuable for me."

~ Wendy, QLD teacher

"I exhausted myself as a person trying to survive being a teacher."

"I found it difficult to switch from work to home. I was overworking and not taking care of myself first to be able to be the best person and teacher I can be. I exhausted myself as a person trying to survive being a teacher. I was looking to find a way to ensure I was able to function  as a person outside of teaching. The fortnighlty calls were a great opportunity to check in with Ellen and my group. It was a great way to check in with myself for an honest reflection on how I had handled the previous two weeks and whether I had focused on self-care.

Thanks to the Resilient Teacher Group program, I now recognise that I am a much better teacher when I prioritise myself as a person first and ensure I allow myself self-care time. I also recognise that I won't get it right all the time and that's perfectly ok. I can keep working on it."

Here's what Sharon, a previous participant had to say:

"I have been a teacher for many years and work has always been the primary focus of my life, much to the detriment of my health and wellbeing. Every term I start with good intentions, but by week 5 my self-care routines have gone by the wayside.

When Ellen advertised her Resilient Teachers Program, I knew this was for me. When I registered for the coaching program it was a very difficult time for me personally but I was determined to put myself first.

The program has made a significant difference to my life. It brings accountability and provides an opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas with other people interested in making self-care a priority.

Ellen is amazing. She just knows exactly what to say. The guidance that she gives is something that has made an incredible difference to my life. I highly recommend completing the program, you deserve it!"

~ Sharon, QLD Teacher

This program is for you if:

  • You desire more health, wellbeing and resilience in your life as a person first and a teacher second

  • You know you have been putting yourself last or de-prioritising your needs over school and how important it is to change that to find any kind of wellbeing long term

  • You’re sick and tired of feeling so exhausted, resentful and depleted all the time, and of feeling guilty whenever you do anything to nurture yourself

  • You find yourself stuck in patterns of ‘boom and bust’ with your health habits and wellbeing practices, swinging from doing all the things to look after you in the holidays to completely neglecting yourself from weeks 4 - 10 of every term

  • You know you do well with gentle and supportive external accountability for habit change and to stick to rituals and routines

  • You are ready to take ownership of your wellbeing and resilience and let go of  busy as a badge of honour, productivity guilt, self-neglect, perfectionism, martyrdom, people pleasing, blaming the system/your colleages/your Principal for your wellbeing challenges

  • You want to surround yourself with supportive, psychologically safe people to explore these changes in mindset and behaviour and be in community with a group of peers who are making similar changes and truly ‘get it’

This program is NOT for you if:

  • You are looking for a quick fix or magic pill to your resilience and wellbeing challenges

  • You won’t/can’t commit to showing up to 1 x 60 minute call per fortnight for the duration of the program (5 calls each term for Term 1 and 2)

  • You want to focus on how to manage your classroom/student behaviour/workload at school -- that’s NOT what The Resilient Teacher program is about

  • You aren’t ready to let go of busy as a badge of honour, productivity guilt, self-neglect, perfectionism, martyrdom, people pleasing, blaming the system/your colleages/your Principal for your wellbeing challenges

  • You approach wellbeing and resilience as a competition you need to win and will try to prove your superiority to other group members

  • You aren’t interested in working collaboratively and supporting other group members, or being supported by other group members

  • You want to stay stuck in your limiting beliefs about what is and isn’t possible for teachers as resilient people first, resilient teachers second, in this education system and world situations we find ourselves in

"Ellen knows her stuff...

"She speaks not only from personal experience but a wealth of research and insights on a range of topics and issues that influence the wellbeing and professional practice of educators. Her resources, programs and podcasts are gold."

~ Trudy Graham, Teachers Thriving

"I was stressed and overwhelmed from the constantly changing and ever-growing demands of teaching. As a result of the Resilient Teacher Group Program, I feel better able to manage and prioritise my work/life balance. I found it a very welcoming and supportive experience.

The guidance and mentoring from Ellen and the support and collaboration of the other members helped me established better balance and boundaries. The support from Ellen was amazing, ensuring that we look after ourselves as a person first.

I would highly recommend the Resilient Teacher Group Coaching Calls with Ellen for anyone who needs support with their work/life balance."
